Hope T-Rex Expander Sprocket
Hope’s T-rex Range EXpander Sprocket is a cheap way to give yourself a drive train weight reduction and simplistic gear setup utilising a 1×10 setup. By using the 40T sprocket on a 1×10 you retain usable ratios, without the cost of a 1×11 setup. You must choose between either the sram vs shimano version. The idea is to remove the 17t sprocket from a compatible cassette.
Shimano version compatible with XT M771 and XTR M980 11-36 10spd cassettes
SRAM version compatible with PG1030, PG1050 and PG1070 11-36 cassettes
We recommend that you use a website like BIKECALC to make sure you select the correct front chain ring to give you the required ratios.
The weight saving is not to be sniffed at, removing your front shifter, front mech and 2 rings off the bike can easily add up to 500grams.
To get the best out of the T-rex sprocket you will need to remove your front chain ring and replace this with Hope’s Retainer ring.
